Having been cornered, one of the robbers allegedly abandoned the bag, jumped off an 8-feet tall protection wall opposite Ponda fire station and fled. According to the victim woman from Varkhandem, as soon as she withdraw money from the ATM, the robber who might have been keeping watch on her, snatched her bag containing the sum.
The other accused, who tried to escape on his motorcycle, was caught and given a sound thrashing by the locals. Ponda police on being informed, rushed to spot, stopped the public from thrashing the accused and taken him into custody. Police identified the arrested accused as one Rajesh Sharma Solyekar (25) from Velguem.
