PANJIM: The suspicion about the intentions of political parties, among the mining affected people came to the fore with the Goa Mining Peoples’ Front canceling the all party public meeting scheduled for today, February 13, fearing that the platform may be used by parties to level allegations against each other and aggravate the issue.
GMPF convener Adv Suhaas Naik pointed out that since the mining crisis has engulfed the State, political parties, rather then working out solution for resolving the issue, are targeting each other for the mess. He said that mining workers are scared that political parties might use the meeting to politicise the issue, levy allegations and worsen the situation.

“Hence it was decided to call off the meeting,” he informed.
Naik said that the idea behind the meeting was to unite all political parties on the issue and to pass a common resolution for immediate commencement of legal mining.
The mining dependent people under the banner GMPF have been protesting at Azad Maidan since the last 28 days demanding resumption of legal mining, at the earliest.
