BORIM: Terming the allegations levelled against her by former councillor Venkatesh Naik as “baseless”, former Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) chairperson Rukmi Dangui stated that Naik is venting out frustration as he could not topple her and dissolve the council.
It may be recalled that Naik had accused Dangui and other councillors supporting her of committing fraud to the tune of Rs 68 lakh over solving garbage menace. Naik had also informed that he had filed the case with the Vigilance department.
Addressing media persons in the city, Dangui said: “After I took over as chairperson, Naik had tried to topple the council, but he didn’t succeed. He was eying the chairperson’s post and as he couldn’t grab it, he tried to create a problem by instigating people to stop vehicles carrying garbage,” alleged Dangui.
“We had purchased 250 bins following proper tendering process, besides 5,000 small bins from GHRSSIDC. Bills of both the orders are not yet cleared, though we have received the bins. How can there be a fraud when bills are only not cleared,” asked Dangui.
“Naik had proposed to outsource garbage collection. But when the council came to know about his vested interest behind the proposal as he was supposed to bid for the tender, we didn’t give a nod,” alleged Dangui.
Councillors Damodar Naik, Pradeep Naik, Dinkar Mundye, Sanjay Naik, Diksha Naik and Kishore Naik were also present at the press conference.
