PANJIM: The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court Panjim on Friday adjourned the hearing on the bail plea of suspended Indian Reserve Battalion (IRBn) constable Amit Naik to Saturday.

Naik has been referred by Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) to IPHB for mental health assessment and treatment.
Naik had tried to commit suicide in the lockup by consuming floor cleaner. He was arrested for allegedly assisting notorious land scam accused Suleiman alias Siddique Khan escape from Crime Branch lockup.
The Old Goa Police on Friday submitted before the court that judicial custody of former IRBn constable Amit Naik is required to carry out fair and clear investigation into the land grabbing accused Siddiqui alias Suleman Khan escaping case.
In his say before the court, Suden Redkar, PSI, Old Goa Police Station, also submitted that the investigation team is on the track to trace the most wanted criminal Suleman Khan and if Amit Naik is released then it will mislead the investigation team or he may extinguish evidential source of tracing Suleman Khan.
Redkar also submitted that if Naik is released on bail then he may threaten prime witnesses which will hamper the whole investigation. The accuse may also contact Suleman Khan who is still untraced.
Amit Naik, a former Indian Reserve Battalion (IRBn) constable, who assisted notorious Siddiqui alias Suleman Khan in escaping from the Crime Branch police custody, had filed bail application before the Panjim Court.
The bail hearing has now been adjourned to December 21, 2024.
Suleman Khan, who was an accused in several land grabbing cases, escaped from the Crime Branch custody on December 13, with the help of an IRBn constable Naik who was on guard duty.
Naik late surrendered before the Old Hubli police station after Khan fled in a car. Naik was later brought to Goa and was remanded in four days police custody. He also dismissed from service.
While, in the police custody at the Old Goa police station, Naik on Sunday allegedly attempted suicide by consuming toilet cleaning liquid. He was later rushed to the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim where he recovered.
After the end of his four days police custody, Naik has now been remanded in judicial custody.
Meanwhile, police remand of Hazrat Ali, the person who allegedly harboured the fugitive at Hubli, was extended by three more days.
