Fadte was addressing a meeting of the Board of Director of Goa Dairy, on Tuesday, convened to elicit their views on the impact the new entrants would have on the business of the local dairy.
It was decided, at the meeting, to brief Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar and Co-Operatives Minister Mahadev Naik on the challenges the dairy would face from the new entrants Amul and Surat District Cooperative Milk Producers Union Limited (Sumul) which have obtained permission from the State government to operate in the Goa market.
Goa has 175 milk supplying societies; 165 of which are members of Goa Dairy that supply milk after collecting it from dairy farmers. Goa Dairy is consistently producing and retailing 85,000 to 90,000 litres of milk daily.
According to sources, Goa needs 2.5 lakh litres of milk daily; Goa Dairy supplies around 90,000 litres per day, and rest is supplied by several other brands including Amul which commenced operation, recently.
