MAPUSA: Anjuna locals and daily commuters are facing major hardship as the roads in the village especially the road leading to Vagator Beach has developed potholes.

A local resident and social activist Ravi Harmalkar raised concerned over the issue.
He said, “Two years back, the work of installing underground cabling of 33 KV and 11 KV lines was undertaken and after that two times the work of hot-mixing of road was done and both the time the hot-mix carpeting is washed away with the rains, developing potholes.”
Harmalkar said, “Several complaints were made with the concerned department. However, the department failed to act.”
“People are going through hardship to commute on the roads of Anjuna. These potholes get filled with water which makes it difficult for the rider, driver to understand that there is a pothole and they need to drive carefully. This is causing damage to the vehicle especially motorcycle/scooters. Taxpayers’ money has been wasted for hot-mixing of the roads of substandard quality. People are facing inconvenience as they have to spend money on maintenance of the vehicles,” he added.
He said, “The people are frustrated as the concerned department and local authorities are turning a blind eye towards this issue, where the builders are allowed to go for underground cabling illegally.”
