MARGAO: The issues of garbage collection, sewage network, commercial projects, scrap yards, dengue, and comunidade land were discussed at the Sao Jose De Areal gram sabha. A budget of Rs 1.18 crore, with Rs 10 lakh reserved for ST development, was also approved.
On the garbage issue, the panchayat agreed to refrain from granting permission for commercial projects as the village lacked a garbage dumping site, a sewerage treatment plant, dustbins, and labourers and vehicles for garbage collection.
On the dengue issue, the members claimed that more cases had been detected in the IDC and demanded strict action by the Health Department. The chair informed that the health authorities, after a site inspection, found that factory workers were residing in the factory premises, violating health and industrial rules.
The panchayat also informed that a sopo contractor had been appointed and collection from all hawkers and vendors in the village would start on April 1.
