Areal to demolish illegal scrap yards

MARGAO: The Sao Jose de Areal Panchayat told the Sunday gram sabha that the process of issuing demolition notices on the illegal structures will soon get underway.

At the gram sabha held on Sunday, Sarpanch Julio Monteiro told the members that the Panchayat will also write to the Goa State Pollution Control Board and also the South Goa District Collector to also act against the scrap yards as per the law. He said the Panchayat has completed the laid down procedure and the demolition notices will go to the scrap yards shortly.
The meeting also deliberated at length on the issue of mopping up additional revenue for the village panchayat. The Sarpanch announced about the Panchayat’s decision to revise the house tax and also to collect one month’s rent from the households leasing out their rooms and premises to tenants on rent.
The Sarpanch also informed the gram sabha on the Panchayat’s decision to outsource collection of garbage by charging a prescribed fee of Rs 1 per day to the households.
The gram sabha was also told that the Panchaayt will revise the trade tax as per the area of the premises and utilise the revenue for acquisition of land to set up public utility projects.
On the master plan, the gram sabha was informed that the Panchayat will soon call a special gram sabha to invite suggestions from the villagers before finalising a master plan for the village.
The gram sabha also demanded that the government put in place underground or overhead bridges at the railway crossing in the villages at Nessai and Galling.
