The issue of the madrassa figured at the gram sabha meeting chaired by Sarpanch Murtuza Koknoor wherein members demanded to know the action the Panchayat has taken against the structure. While the owner of the madrass was conspicuous by his absence, the complainant, who was present for the meeting, informed that the owner has failed to shut down and shift the madrassa.
When the issue had figured last time around, the Panchayat had given the owner four months time to close down the operation. However, the gram sabha was informed on Sunday that not only was the madrasa operating from the premises till date, but that there’s an extension built.
After much discussions, the gram sabha has asked the Panchayat to initiate the necessary action against the madrassa by calling the owner again.
The issue of house tax also figured at the meeting. To a suggestion to carry out house tax assessment, gram sabha members demanded that the Panchayat first effect recoveries of the huge house tax arrears before carrying out the house assessment.
