Arlem-Raia road claims one more life

MARGAO: A 30-year-old native of Assam Binay Singh became the latest victim as the Arlem-Raia killer road claimed yet another life on Monday noon.

While the incident took place around noon, local residents complained that the same stretch of road witnessed a number of accidents late Monday evening due to dumping of metal stones along the road to carry out pipeline work.
Binay Singh was knocked down by a Canter vehicle loaded with gas cylinders when he was trying to cross the road as traffic was diverted on the four-lane road from Arlem to Raicho Ambo on one side of the road. He was rushed to Hospicio in a 108 ambulance, but was declared brought dead to the hospital.
Local residents blamed the authorities for failure to deploy a traffic constable near the road diversion to alert pedestrians and motorists about it.
Romao Jesus pointed out that the accident could have been avoided had the traffic policemen manned the diversion point.
A local resident Jerome Colaco blamed the authorities for not repairing the Arlem-Raia road which has claimed the lives of many people till date.
