A demolition drive has begun near the Tito’s Lane and Mambo’s in Calangute, where authorities have started razing shops and stalls built on government beach property at Sauntavaddo.
The move follows directions from the Directorate of Tourism Goa, which has deployed a demolition squad, accompanied by police, to clear 17 illegal structures along the coastline.
The encroachments include permanent and temporary constructions such as cemented huts, concrete stalls, wooden‑pole sheds, fabricated‑steel units and wooden platforms with tables and chairs extending into the encroached beach area. The drive is aimed at reclaiming unauthorized occupation of government land, restoring the designated coastal zone and ensuring that public beach spaces remain free of illegal structures.
