PONDA: Authorities have commenced repair work on a hazardous one-kilometre stretch of road in Ponda, following a report published by O Heraldo on 26 December titled ‘Unmotorable Road Stretch Forces Commuters into Wrong Lane’.

The report highlighted the perilous condition of the road, which had become severely bumpy and posed significant risks to commuters, particularly two-wheeler riders. The road’s deteriorated state was attributed to repeated excavations for developmental projects, including the installation of sewerage chambers.
Recently, a damaged pipeline necessitated further excavation, but the road was not adequately restored afterward. As a result, a section of the road at a sharp turn in Daag, Ponda, had caved in, exacerbating the danger for motorists.
In response to the report, the authorities have not only initiated repairs but have also begun levelling the uneven sewage manholes, whose gaps were a serious hazard for road users.
Kishan Naik, a local resident, expressed his gratitude to O Heraldo for bringing the issue to light, saying, “The timely reporting has prompted action from the authorities, ensuring safer travel for all.”
