Earlier, Curtorim PHC had called upon the GIDC to look into sanitation related issues at the Margao Industrial Estate.

In the letter written by the Balli PHC to the field manager of the Cuncolim Industrial Estate, the GIDC has been asked to take action on the issue of workers staying in industrial units there.

This issue had been raised earlier by GOACAN at the National Vector Borne Disease Control Program (NVBDCP).

Incidentally, an inspection carried out at the Cuncolim Industrial Estate had found that the workers had set up makeshift arrangements for their kitchen and bathing requirements too, which is also against the law.

While GOACAN had also highlighted issues at the Margao Industrial Estate, the Curtorim PHC had asked the GIDC to take action against units at the Margao Industrial Estate for not taking care of waste from scrap yards. The units were served show-cause notices for violating the guidelines given by the GIDC at the time they had taken over possession of their units. Those operating these units had earlier signed undertakings that were given to GIDC stating that they would comply with all environment norms, health and sanitation.

GIDC Chairman Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco has already informed mediapersons that action against erring industrial units will be taken and that he had recently inspected the Sanguem Industrial Estate and similar inspections will be conducted at other industrial estates too.
