MARGAO, FEB 11
Agitated residents of Balli took to the streets by blocking bauxite transporting trucks on the main Balli-Cananguinim road in protest against dust pollution.
The residents stopped over a dozen trucks from plying on the road while transporting the ore from Naqueri to the Mormugao Port Trust.
The residents hit on the road at around 1 pm and blocked the trucks for around two hours, demanding an immediate halt to the ore transportation. Cuncolim police led by PI Dharmesh Angle rushed to Balli as the residents refused to withdraw the blockade.
PI Angle later called the Quepem Mamlatdar to find a solution to the problem of the local residents, who have been time and again complaining of dust pollutions to the transportation of bauxite.
After holding discussions with the agitated residents, the Mamlatdar has invited the residents for a meeting scheduled to be take place at Quepem on Friday to work out a permanent solution to the transportation and dust pollution.
