BAMBOLIM: In a chilling incident that has sent shockwaves through the coastal belt, a woman in her early twenties was allegedly drugged and gang-raped by two men at Bambolim Beach on Tuesday.
According to official sources, the victim went to the beach around 3:30 pm on her two-wheeler. After a while, two men, believed to be locals, approached her and started gaining her confidence. The same sources told O Heraldo that they then offered her alcoholic drinks. Thereafter, they forcefully offered her more such drinks, which left her heavily intoxicated and she lost control of her senses. They then took her to another location, approximately seven kilometres away, where they committed the horrific crime. The duo then dumped her near the Zuari Bridge along with her bike.
The incident came to light only after the victim, who was under severe trauma, decided to approach the Agacaim Police Station a day later on her own.
Sources close to the victim told O Heraldo that she has suffered physical injuries too and is currently under medication. A formal FIR has been registered at the Agacaim Police Station under Sections 64, 70 (1), 123 of the BNS Act 2023. The police arrested the accused Macwin Andrade (25) from Nuvem and Rowan Abranches (21) from Verna after identifying them based on CCTV footage from around the crime scene area.
As the probe continues, multiple statements were recorded yesterday and further investigation is underway.
