Basic amenities in place from Ward 11 to 15; pending projects have put a dent in Vasco progress

VASCO: The basic civic works of cleaning and constructing amenities from Ward 11 to 15 of the Mormugao Municipal Council have been almost put in place. However, some of the much expected and major revenue generating projects are yet to see the daylight. These have put a dent on Vasco’s progress.

WARD 11

Councillor Saifullah Khan who was councillor for Mangor area has undertaken pavering, footpath construction, building of drains, internal road, etc which was pending since many years. 

WORKS DONE

Almost 90 per cent of the civic works in this ward has been completed. This is the area which was badly hit by the COVID-19 cases and invited isolation from the Health Department. During the lockdown, councillor Khan had managed to raise several issues of this ward.

WARD 12 

Councillor Deepak Naik, also holds the post of Vasco BJP mandal president. 

WORKS DONE

In this ward few internal roads were built for people’s convenience. Regular fogging, cleaning of drains, laying of pavers have been taken up. Dark spots have been beautified.

WORKs DUE

A mega Power house project is likely to come up in this ward, which may generate revenue for the municipality, but it is still in the pipeline. 

ISSUES 

The children’s park is in a shambles. The Baina fish market also needs a Midas touch.

WARD 13

Krishna (Daji) Salkar was the sitting councillor. The major face of the Vasco town falls in this ward. 

WORKS DONE

Several dark spots from this ward have been beautified, pavers were put up, old fish market space beautified and a high mast was also erected. 

Recreational spots for people to relax and rest have also been put up. The councillor reportedly helped in getting the above amenities to the people. 

ISSUES

Encroachments on footpaths by vendors have increased. The fish market project and chief officer’s bungalow signature project are yet to see daylight. The two children’s parks in the heart of the city are ill maintained.

WARD 14

Councillor is Lavina D’Souza who was councillor for Khariawado area. 

WORKS DONE

Lavina D’Souza has done basic works of laying pavers, construction of nullahs, drains, fogging, etc, in her ward. 

ISSUES

The issue of sewerage line is still in process and the existing sewers have to be repaired. This area also contains fishermen and the migrant labourers who work on the fishing boats. There is a major drain which needs to be completed from Alvira building to Old Cross Khariawado area.

WARD 15

Councillor was the former chairperson of the Mormugao Municipal Council, Nandadeep Raut. 

Mundvel, Goa Shipping Limited and a part of Non Mon area come under this ward. 

WORKS DONE

Most of the works of fogging, cleaning of drainages, laying of pavers, clearing of dark spots, etc, have been done in this ward. 

ISSUES

There is a need to construct a retaining wall in this ward opposite the GSL area. A few months back a huge boulder rolled down on the house and one old lady died when it came and crushed her house. There is also a need to build drains in some places, says some citizens of this ward.
