Rajasthan Royals manager Romi Bhinder is likely to face only a warning or minor fine after being found using a mobile phone in the dugout during an IPL 2026 match. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to take a lenient stance, considering his medical condition and lack of malicious intent.
The incident occurred during the second innings of the Rajasthan Royals vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru clash on April 10, when Bhinder was seen using a mobile phone in the players’ dugout. Under IPL’s Players and Match Officials Area (PMOA) protocol, team managers are allowed to use phones in the dressing room but not in the dugout.
Despite the breach, initial reports suggest that the violation may not be treated as serious. The BCCI’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) is currently reviewing the matter and will make the final decision regarding any possible breach of anti-corruption guidelines.
Following the incident, Bhinder was issued a show-cause notice and asked to respond within 48 hours. He submitted an apology along with medical records, explaining the need to carry a mobile phone due to past health complications. Bhinder had previously spent weeks in intensive care, including time on a ventilator after suffering lung-related issues.
