BELGAUM: While Karnataka Police has filed a charge sheet in over 50 cases pertaining to trafficking of illicit Goan liquor in Belgaum and neighbouring areas, the state police authorities have decided to enhance interaction and exchange crime-related information with their Goan counterparts.
Senior police official M N Reddy, who recently took charge as Director General of Police (Law and Order) discussed the issue during the meeting of SPs of Belgaum, Dharwad, Bijapur, Ranebennur, Karwar and Bagalkot in Belgaum on Monday.
Speaking at a press conference here, ADGP M N Reddy stated that a special attention is being given as far as interstate crimes like liquor and drug trafficking is concerned.
“The matter of inter state crime is being taken up on priority. Meeting of top officials was also held in Belgaum early this year in this regard. We intend to further strengthen the ties and enhance cooperation as far as investigation of interstate crimes is concerned,” ADGP told reporters.
He said no moral policing of any sort will be allowed in Karnataka. “Anyone taking law in their own hands or trying to create problem for law and order is a criminal for us,” he emphasized adding that matter of eve teasing will be also taken up on priority and will be dealt seriously.
North Karnataka IGP Dr Charan Reddy said charge sheet has been issued in 50 cases related to illicit supply of Goa liquor in Belgaum region.
“Stringent measures are being initiated to prevent this illicit liquor trade,” Dr Reddy said adding that Belgaum police is getting good cooperation from Goa police in these cases and soon plans to hold a meeting with them.
