Blessed Vaz will be canonised as a Saint by Pope Francis in January 2015 at Sri Lanka.
The motion which was moved by the president of Cana-Banaulim Sporting Association, Agnelo Fernandes received unanimous support with villagers having expressed fear that the land where the house stands could be sold to land sharks.
Members adopted a resolution objecting to the construction of footpath along the shore of Benaulim beach. Earlier, Sarpanch Remedios Fernandes informed that the panchayat has received development proposal from the Tourism department for development of roadside footpath, footpath along the beach and construction of toilets along the beach.
MLA Caitu who was present at the meet informed that all the necessary permissions for the proposed project had been obtained, adding that no land would be acquired as the same shall be built on the acquired land. However, former sarpanch Royla Fernandes expressed her reservations on the footpath along the beach. Members also said there was no objection of construction of footpath along the village road and also toilets at the beach provided that the toilets were sustainable.
On the demand to develop the ponds at Kamlatolem and Deutolem, MLA informed that the works could be taken up only after getting necessary NOC from respective farmers. Resolution was also adopted to widen the culvert opposite River Sal Estate with members demanding action against the rampant filling of low lying area and also called for an inspection of the area. Issue of garbage and sewerage being released in nullahs was also discussed and the sarpanch was questioned on action taken report on previous gram sabha resolution. Jose Camilo objected to government’s move to acquire the Church Fabrica land for the construction of water tank. Villagers questioned the motive of JICA laying a water pipe through the village.
