QUEPEM: Nakeri Betul Panchayat members protested with black flags during the laying of the foundation stone for the new Panchayat Ghar by Quepem MLA Chandrakant Kavlekar, which they termed as “illegal”.

Panch Delphi Barboza claimed that on receiving information that the foundation was being laid without any formalities, he and his supporters arrived at the site and protested with black flags.
Barboza said that the construction of the panchayat house should have been completed in 2013. The consultants had visited and inspected the site but the work got delayed. No reason was given for the delay.
“After inquiring with the GIDC engineer, we came to know that the tender for construction of new building has not been issued,” he said.
He alleged that steps are being taken to deceive the people by abusing the government machinery.
Nakeri Betul sarpanch Jose Sebi Fernandes said, “The delimitation of our panchayat has not been done. However, expansion and development works are underway. Some new tenders are in process with the help of panchayat fund. The new panchayat ghar work has been undertaken and the project is worth Rs 1.90 crore and the road which was incomplete has been hot-mixed.”
Panchayat secretary Vinod Shinde said, “No delimitation has been done in Nakeri Betul Panchayat as it comprises of seven wards as before.”
