Margao: A day after their agitation and protests at the Betul Naqueri site that has been allotted for the Defence Expo and Aero India show, the villagers have vowed not to allow any defence personnel visit the site till the project report of the Defence Expo is submitted to the panchayat.
The villagers who were upset that the government tried to mislead them regarding the visit of the Navy trucks and the scheduled inspection have warned the government not to take them for granted and that the government would be responsible if there is a law and order situation.
Various panchayats across the three constituencies of Salcete, Canacona and Quepem have passed resolutions against the project and two Zilla panchayat members have also protested against the government’s decision. The villagers question how the government is ignoring their democratic voice that is being conveyed to them through all possible channels.
The villagers have also refused to believe the clarifications put forward by the deputy collector and will be writing back to the government on the replies it received to its memorandum.
