MARGAO: Veteran writer and activist of Konkani movement, Advocate Uday Bhembre has won the prestigious Sahitya Academy Award for his Konkani book ‘Karnaparv’. The book is based on the interpretation of Mahabharat and the happenings in the mythological India.
The 76-year-old writer reacted by saying, “It is such a big award and naturally, I am happy for getting it. The book is a historical interpretation of one of the episodes of Mahabharat.”
“I feel if the youth of today write such a historic interpretation of Ramayana or Mahabharat, which I call are mines of ideas, and give some teaching to the world, then I feel my work will succeed,” he added.
Adv Bhembre said that his family is happy as the award he has received is of great stature.
Along with Adv Bhembre and several other Indian writers, Arun Khopkar has also won the award for his Marathi book ‘Chalat Chitra Vyuva’.
The decision of the awards was taken at the meeting of the Sahitya Academy Council in New Delhi on Thursday morning. The awards are likely to be presented in February next year.
