BICHOLIM: To express their anger over the frequent power failures, the Bicholim residents lit candles in the office of the assistant electrical engineer and also gheroed him, on Wednesday.
Angry at the frequent power failures and faulty streetlights in Bicholim, the residents stormed into the electricity office in the town and took to task the assistant engineer for not supplying electricity during Ganesh Chaturthi festival.
AE Deepak Gawas tried to pacify the angry residents stating that he has already sent the requirements to the department, but the same is yet to be supplied. He also complained that there is insufficient number of ground staff, which is delaying the work.
He showed them the letter submitted to the department through his office and a list of the necessary items. He also said that he has forwarded the list of the electrical equipments needed for the Bicholim power station.
The residents also brought to the notice of AE that the electricity department in the urban areas is getting neglected and questioned why only Bicholim office is bent upon saving power causing acute inconvenience to people.
The AE assured the residents that he would look into the matter and also try to solve the issue related to streetlights.
Later, the residents lit candles and placed them on the table of the AE telling him that the department has forced them to use candles even when they are paying the electricity bill.
