PANJIM: Stating that
students are traumatized over the increasing number of attacks on educational
institutions by the Narendra Modi government, the National Students Union of
India (NSUI) on Thursday said the BJP has a systematic plan to crush dissent
raised against its ideology by student unions.

national members questioned the right of the BJP government to certify students’
nationalism, when the party itself is a preacher of Naturam Ghodse (the assassin
of Mahatma Gandhi) and took nearly 52 years after Independence to hoist the Tri-colour
at the party head office.

Hasiba Amin said a systematic pattern has been launched by the BJP government
across prime educational institutions in the country to crush dissent raised
against them by students. “There is a complete jungle raj in the name of
nationalism. The voices of students are systematically crushed,” she said.
“The move to call students
anti-national or naxalites is happening since the time BJP took over. Be it FTI
struggle or IIT, IIM student or Hyderabad student fight that led to death of
Rohith Vemula. This is a pattern to target student voices,” Amin said adding
that the student community is traumatized with the increasing incidents. NSUI
fears that the next attack could be on Mumbai or Goa University.
Demanding strong action
against students involved in giving anti-national slogans at JNU campus, Amin
alleged that students involved in chanting slogans are from an organization
closely associated with PDP (Peoples Democratic Party) and hence they have not
been touched. “Any action against these students can have direct impact on
BJP-PDP alliance,” she said.
NSUI condemned the Central
government move to label the entire JNU and its 8000-odd student’s faculty as
anti-nationals.
