Addressing the media on Saturday, GPCC spokesperson Yatish Naik accused successive chief ministers – Manohar Parrikar (now defence minister) and Laxmikant Parsekar – of failing to meet their own commitments.
“It had promised to remove VAT on petrol prices, whereas it is currently 16 percent. The party manifesto had also promised abolishing house tax, solving garbage menace within 18 months of it coming to power, but these remain unfinished till date,” he said, flashing a copy of the manifesto to the journalists.
Recalling a string of other promises made by the party, such as unemployment allowance for youth, creating of 50,000 jobs, housing for all, enforcement of people’s Regional Plan, medium of instruction, shifting of casinos out of Mandovi River, constructing a new Zuari Bridge in six months and appointing Lokayukta in 100 days after coming to power, Naik said that these were merely to hoodwink the people of Goa.
“BJP has hoodwinked Goans. It is a hypocrite party. The Lokayukta that was promised is still nonexistent or is made for being absent,” Naik said.
The spokesperson also mocked at the ‘worst scenario’ on the power and water supply front. “Conditions in the State are deteriorating, especially in environment, development and governance. This has also been assessed by the national media,” Naik added.
