PONDA: The BJP is likely to move no confidence motion against the recently elected MGP-backed Deputy Chairperson Ameena Naik in the coming days to show its majority in the Ponda Municipal Council.
Two days ago, the MGP had defeated BJP in the deputy chairperson’s election by eight against seven votes which BJP could not digest the MGP majority because few days ago the BJP backed Chairperson Vishwanath Dalvi was elected unopposed and winning the deputy post by MGP thereafter was indicating the rival party gaining majority in the Council.

Therefore, the BJP put split in the MGP, wherein Councillor Yatish Sawkar officially joined the rival party in presence of Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Vinay Tendulkar. With this, the BJP strength came to eight and now they are planning to bring down the deputy chairperson by no confidence motion in next few days.
Meanwhile, on Monday, MGP leader Sudin Dhavalikar strongly criticised BJP for horse-trading the MLAs, councillors and panchas from other parties in the State.
He said, “BJP should stop such low level political activities now. Despite horse-trading Congress and MGP MLAs, the party is unsatisfied. They are scared to face 2022 Assembly elections. This is because they are losing ground in Goa and so now stealing the councillors and panchas from the MGP and other parties in Goa. They should introspect why they are losing the ground.”
Dhavalikar seemed upset over the BJP which split the MGP by taking away their councillor. MGP had recently won the deputy chairperson election.
He said, “This would prove them costly as it will hurt their loyal party members, who will teach them a lesson. In the long run, this policy will not be useful and BJP would be in trouble at 2022 election.”
“If BJP has four lakh strong membership why they are putting split in the other parties. This proves that the BJP is weakened in Goa and if they don’t introspect then sure to lose its base in the State.”
“BJP is now making an election stunt for Zilla Parishad election by making announcement that it would provide 5,000 jobs. People should not be mislead over it. The party should explain how they would create the jobs,” Dhavalikar added.
Ponda MGP leader Dr Ketan Bhatikar urged the government to provide at least six 108 Ambulances as the general and COVID-19 patients are facing hardship to get timely treatment.
He said, “People are also facing hardship to get the death certificates as most of the doctors are not willing to give certificates of the patients died at home due to COVID guidelines.”
“Doctors fear that in case the patient had died due to COVID-19 they would be in legal trouble and so avoid to provide the death certificates to the relatives. In the absence of death certificates, the relatives find difficult to perform final rites as Ponda Municipal Council does not allow its crematorium for final rites without the death certificate.
Dr Bhatikar also demanded that the government dispose off the dump of COVID-19 garbage accumulated in the sub-district hospital.
He also demanded to install CCTVs in Ponda town as thefts are increasing.
