MARGAO: As local stalwarts Ulhas Tuemkar and Satyavijai Naik battle for the party ticket for the Davorlim seat, BJP leadership appeared undecided on its candidate for the constituency, leaving the cadre confused.
While the BJP candidate for the Guirdolim seat Sanjana Velip filed her papers in the presence of party chief Vinay Tendulkar and Cuncolim MLA Rajan Naik on Wednesday, the party leadership is silent on finalising its candidate for the Davorlim seat amidst a fierce lobbying by the Tuemkar and Satyavijai camp for the ticket.
Sources in the know said the BJP leadership had a meeting with both Tuemkar and Satyavijai separately, followed by a one-on-one meeting with members of the Navelim mandal on Saturday, the BJP leadership is still dilly dallying on the ticket for Davorlim.
While Satyavijai belongs to the BJP cadre and has been associated with party activities over the years, the Tuemkar camp has told the party leadership that unlike Tuemkar, Satyavijai is not residing in the constituency comprising of the villages of Aquem-Baixo, Davorlim and Rumdamol. Moreover, they pointed out that Tuemkar has been associated with the Rumdamol Panchayat for long, even holding the post of Sarpanch for a long period.
With the two camps leaving no stone unturned to stake claim for the party ticket, all eyes are now focussed on the party leadership to take a final call on the candidature.
