PERNEM, SEPT 22
The bodies of the two sand-extracting labourers were fished out from the Chapora River on Tuesday, after they reportedly drowned on Monday morning.
According to reports, the labourers, Pigan Raj (18) and Kedar Prasad Gawde (45) were working on sand-extracting canoes and accidentally fell in the river.
Pernem Fire Services was pressed into service, but firemen were unable to locate the missing labourers till Monday night.
A resident of Alorna on Tuesday noticed one body floating in the river, while the second body was found in the river by locals of Tharmas village, near Alorna.
Both bodies were sent to the GMC hospital at Bambolim for an autopsy and Pernem police is investigating the case.
