PONDA: Gold ornaments worth Rs 6 lakh were stolen from a house at Tamsule-Khandola, while burglars also targeted two more houses in the vicinity.
The burglars decamped with cash of about Rs 5,000 from the second house, while in the third house, there were no valuables. Incidentally, all the three houses that were targeted are barely few metres away from each another.
The incident came to light on Monday morning when Sushant Sulkar returned to his house from work after his night shift.
“The family members were at ancestral house at Betki to attend the village Zatra, while I was at work. When I returned today morning, the incident came to light,” informed the house owner, Sulkar.
“The burglars entered the house by breaking open the lock of the rear door and gold ornaments worth Rs 6 lakh are missing. The residents informed that there are two more break-ins at two more houses in the area,” said Sulkar.
Pointing to the increasing number of migrants residing in the village, Sulkar urged the authorities to keep a watch, as he claimed that it is a known fact that migrants are involved in such thefts.
Hardly metres away from Sulkar’s house, the burglars entered another house by breaking open the front door lock and reportedly decamped with cash of Rs 5,000. The owner is staying in Mumbai and the house is being looked after by a caretaker, who was away at the time of incident.
The third house some 20 metres away from the second house was also targeted. However, the burglars had to return empty handed as there were no valuables in the house.
According to information, the house owner is staying at Vasco and occasionally visits his house at Tamsule, and as such no valuables are kept. The burglars entered the house by breaking open the front door lock including the central locks by damaging the door frame.
A dog squad and finger prints expert were pressed into service. The sniffer dog after tracking the burglars’ route to all the three houses halted along the main road near a kiosk, some 100 metres away.
Meanwhile, Ponda Police detained five persons (migrants) from the locality on suspicion and is investigating the case.
