MARGAO: Over 700 passengers, travelling to various parts of Goa from KTC bus stop, Margao, were put to hardship and inconvenience by Private Bus Owners of South Goa who staged a protest and blocked the road at the bus stand to protest against the road transport office levying fines for various violations.
Bus owners complained that were being stopped during peak hours, which has caused inconvenience to the people and their business. The bus owners later met the assistant director of transport (ADT), who assured to look into the matter.
Over 500 to 700 passengers who are waiting to travel to various parts of South Goa where stranded at the Kadamba bus stand due to the strike, as the adamant bus owners demanded at the ADT comes to the bus stand and resolve their concerns. Later, a delegation of ten bus owners went to the office of the Assistant Director Transport Prakash Kholkar.
The representative of Bus Owner Association Manuel Rodrigues said they had spoken to the ADT and have requested him quash the fines issued to the buses on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Kholkar emphasised that the buses have been fined for the various violations that bus owners failed to comply, including over-speeding, not adhering to rules.
, non-use of uniform, overloading the bus, excess passengers, using foul language etc. He asked the association to submit memorandum of demands.
The bus owners also questioned the ADT as to why the KTC buses were not being fined or stopped for similar violations.
