RIBANDAR: The driver and 20 passengers were injured when a private bus rammed into a house at Panvel-Ribandar on Friday.
According to Old Goa police sources, the bus (GA-01-W-4113), which was proceeding from Panjim to Ponda, had left the KTC bus stand at 2.30 pm. But, the earlier bus plying along the same route had apparently broken down at Patto-Ribandar and those passengers were accommodated in the private bus. As a result, the vehicle was overloaded with around 40 passengers.
Sources further informed that as the bus continued its onward journey, another bus plying along the same route reached near the private bus, due to which the driver of the ill-fated bus started speeding.
“When the bus reached Panvel-Ribandar, the bus driver lost control of the bus and rammed into a house belonging to the Kamat family,” the sources added while informing that the impact was such that three passengers were flung out of the bus and the cabin was totally damaged.
“The bus driver and one passenger had to be removed by the fire brigade officials,” the source added.
The injured passengers were rushed to the GMC by 108 Ambulance where they were treated for injuries.
At the time of going to the press, the process of admitting the injured in the GMC was in progress with many of the injured being referred to the orthopaedics ward due to bone-related injuries
