MARGAO: MMC may claim that it has put in place door-to-door waste collection in one of the wards, but the ground reality is there is no segregation done, thus defeating the very purpose of the activity.
Even as the civic body is bracing up to extend the door-to-door waste collection in the Aquem area of the city, inquiries have only revealed that even though the activity was presently underway at Madel, the concept has not helped in the segregation of waste at source.
The reasons are not far too seek: Households are yet to be provided with bins for collection of bio-degradable and non-biodegradable wastes. As a result, household owners only hand over the mixed waste to the municipal workers at their doorsteps, defeating the very purpose of door-to-door collection.
Sources in the know say even if the household owners hand over the waste to the workers after segregation, the municipal trucks have no facility to transport the waste in segregated form to the dumpyard.
