CALANGUTE: The gram sabha of Village Panchayat of Calangute adopted a resolution to oppose the ODP for the village of Calangute at its meeting held on Sunday. A four-member committee of locals was also appointed for the purpose and if need be to approach the court of law for justice.
Raising the issue. Eknath Nagvekar said that the villagers of Calangute along with technical persons had taken pains to finalise the RP2021 but the government of Goa instead of approving it has now come out with an ODP by keeping the RP2021 in ICU or morgue.
After a brief discussion over the issue Joseph Sequeira suggested forming a committee to oppose the ODP and if need be to approach the court of law. The ODP is being opened for the benefit of the builders lobby, Sequeira alleged.
When one of the members of gram sabha raised the issue of PDA and questioned as to why the village panchayat did not approach the court of law, Sequeira informed that there was not much scope on the issue as the government of Goa had twisted the issue to serve its purpose.
The members raised the issue of bad roads which are posing a threat to motorists and others. Mr. Joseph Sequeira said they have taken the matter with JICA directing to stop the works unless and until all the roads are repaired.
A door to door garbage collection suggestion was accepted and Sequeira informed the members that a trial door to door collection will be done from 10th July in the ward of Saunta Vaddo, Calangute. Many other issues including higher electricity charges were raised at the gram sabha.
