The Shri Devi Shantadurga Temple in Calangute came alive on Monday evening as hundreds of devotees gathered to celebrate a grand Diwali Deepotsav, with over 5,000 traditional oil lamps illuminating the temple premises.
Organised jointly by Calangute United Boys and the Shri Devi Shantadurga Sansthan, the event began at 6:30 pm with the ceremonial lighting of lamps. A special appeal was made for women devotees to participate in the ritual, upholding a cherished cultural tradition.
Prasad Shirodkar, mentor of Calangute United Boys, and Pandurang Matkar, President of the Shantadurga Temple Committee, were present to oversee the celebrations.
Devotees offered prayers to Goddess Shantadurga amidst the glow of thousands of lamps, creating a serene and spiritually uplifting atmosphere. The event concluded with the distribution of Mahaprasad to all attendees.
The Deepotsav not only marked the auspicious beginning of the Diwali festival but also highlighted the unity and cultural devotion of the people of Calangute, reinforcing the town’s vibrant festive spirit.
