PONDA: The campaign for Ponda civic polls officially ended on Friday evening, with the Deputy Collector Vishal Kundaikar, who is also the Returning Officer announcing that all preparations were made.
The voting will take place on April 29.
Voting for the 15 Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) wards would be held through ballot paper from 8 am to 5 pm. Counting will be held on May 7, at Collector’s office from 8 am onwards.
As many as 74 candidates are in fray for the polls and campaigning ended without any complaints or untoward incident.
Around 250 police personnel will be deputed to maintain law and order. There will be around 26 polling booths manned by at least five persons including polling officials, assisting staff and police.
Ward numbers 1, 11, 13, 14 will have a single polling booth, while the other 11 wards will have two polling booths. No sensitive or hypersensitive wards have been identified as yet.
Seven wards have been reserved for OBC, OBC women and general ladies. Ward number 1, 8, 11, 13 have been reserved for OBC and includes ward number 1 and 13 reserved for OBC ladies. Wards reserved for ladies include ward number 1, 4,9,12 and 13. Meanwhile, Returning Officer Vishal Kundaikar said sometimes people avoid voting if they did not have EPIC (Elector Photo Identity Card), which is essential during voting.
However, he said beside EPIC there are eight other cards to prove their identity and allow voting.
These cards include Smart Card or any other card issued by the Government of India or Government of Goa, valid driving licence, passport, pan card, pass book of any nationalised / scheduled bank containing photograph holder with stamp of Bank, photo identity Card issued by the head of any educational institutions recognised by the government, photo identity card issued by any department of central and state government, pension document with photographs and health insurance Smart Card issued under the scheme Ministry of Labour.
The electors may produce one of the above document listed document to establish his or her identity at polling booth.
