MARGAO: Against the backdrop of strong opposition from Carmona villagers against the alleged setting up of a mobile tower in residential areas, the locals thronged the panchayat on Saturday as the panchayat body issued a show-cause notice.
The villagers thronged at the panchayat meeting after the owner of the building failed to stop work of an alleged mobile tower claiming to be a water tank despite a ‘stop work’ order issued by the sarpanch on June 1.
The villagers had submitted a written complaint on July 19 against the owner for his illegal tower work atop his building citing radiation risks to residents with photographic evidence, based on which a site inspection was scheduled on July 23.
However, the owner did not allow the panchayat members or the complainants to inspect the site.
Under pressure from the public, the panchayat at its Saturday meeting decided to issue ‘show cause’ notice to the owner to immediately explain his refusal to stop work on the alleged mobile tower, or face action.
The villagers have vowed not to allow the tower to come up near their homes at any cost and expect the panchayat to enforce its resolutions on the issue or face wrath of the people of Carmona.
