MARGAO: The Deputy Collector of Salcete held a meeting of various authorities to review the condition of the flyover in Margao.
The initiative was taken by GoaCAN after noticing that the iron bars of the bridge were seen exposed.
The measures to ensure the safety of the bridge were discussed at the meeting and the same were communicated to the stakeholders like PWD, Konkan railway, fire department and other agencies. The agencies were requested to discuss and suggest remedial measures.
“The traffic cell has been requested to impose and regulate the traffic on the flyover and by imposing speed norms and ‘no stopping’ on the bridge,” the deputy collector said.
“The PWD has been directed to submit a report on the safety audit of the bridge after which further actions will be taken. Normally, only when disaster strikes alarm is raised and soon forgotten, hence, the meeting has been taken to address the issues at the initial stage,” he added.
“This flyover is nearly 20 years old and it was seen that there is not much done to keep the flyover in good condition,” commented Roland Martins of GoaCAN.
