The Economic Offences Cell of Goa Police today registered a case against unknown persons for depositing fake currency notes in different branches of State Bank of India.
According to officials in the Economic Cell, J R Jha, Manager, RBI, CBD, Belapur, Navi Mumbai complained that some unknown persons deposited total 17 Indian counterfeit currency notes.
The deposited fake notes consisted 13 notes of Rs 500 and four notes of Rs 100, the manager said in his complaint adding ‘the remitances were received from the State Bank of India Panjim, Mapusa, Canacona and treasury branch.
‘The notes resembled same as that of Indian currency notes but were detected to be fake by the RBI, CBD, Belapur, Navi Mimbai in the month of June 2009,’ Jha said.
The case is under investigation by PSI Satish Padwalkar.
There has been sudden rise in the cases of counterfeit notes in the state in recent times with the RBI claiming that thousands of crores worth notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 being in circulation across the country.
