PANJIM: Over 2300 engineering students are left wondering how to prepare for their next exam as Goa University (GU) has failed to declare their fifth semester results. The exams were held in November-December, last year. The undeclared results have placed the students in a dilemma as based on their performance they could prepare for the final semester scheduled in May, but are unable to do so without the results.
The third year engineering students who have answered papers in various courses like mechanical, telecommunication, computer, electronic and civil engineering, claimed that since the syllabus changed in 2016-17, GU has been delaying the results without disclosing the reason for the delay.
As per information obtained from reliable sources, the paper correction was completed in January. “We have come to know that the paper correction process was completed in January but despite that, the results are yet to be announced,” students said, adding that ‘there are some major technical flaws, which the university is not ready to accept or disclose’.
Students said that the result of the fifth semester actually helps them understand in which subjects they need to work more to clear them in the final exams. “The final
semesters are fast approaching and we are clueless about our performance in the last semester,” students said.
Being on leave, examination controller Anuradha Wagle remained unavailable for the comments. However, Assistant Registrar Maya Sawant, refused to comment on the reason for delay in declaring the results even though she admitted there was a delay.
“There are some reasons for the delay and but I am not in position to disclose that. Wagle would be the concerned officer to talk to,” she said, stating that efforts are on to declare the results in the coming week.
National Student’s Union of India (NSUI) has decided to hold a demonstration and gherao Sawant seeking a reply for the delay in declaring the results. “This is not the first time that results have been delayed but this is routine in Goa University. Students have to fight every time for their rights,” NSUI Goa president Ahraz Mullha said.
Mullha confirmed that the exams of over 2380 students were held in November-December, 2018.
