The Centre has transferred CBSE Chairman Rahul Singh and Secretary Himanshu Gupta amid growing controversy over the board’s On-Screen Marking (OSM) system, which has come under scrutiny following complaints from students and parents regarding Class 12 board examination results.The move comes as concerns continue to mount over discrepancies in answer script evaluations and problems in the re-evaluation process. Students across the country have alleged that their scores were significantly lower than expected, raising questions about the newly introduced digital assessment system. The pass percentage in Class 12 examinations also declined to 85.29% this year from 88.39% in 2025, while the number of students scoring above 90% witnessed a noticeable drop.To investigate the matter, the Centre has constituted a one-member committee headed by S. Radha Chauhan, Chairperson of the Capacity Building Commission. The panel has been tasked with examining the procurement of services related to the OSM system and will submit its findings to the Department of Personnel and Training within one month.The controversy intensified after the post-results verification portal reportedly crashed due to a large volume of requests for answer book copies. Several students who received scanned copies claimed they found blurred pages, missing sections, unanswered questions left unmarked, and, in some cases, answer scripts belonging to other students.The issue also reached Parliament, with the Parliamentary Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports summoning senior CBSE and Education Ministry officials for discussions. The government hopes the inquiry will help restore confidence in the board’s examination and evaluation processes.
