PANJIM: The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) filed a special leave petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court seeking to quash and set aside the order of the High Court of Bombay at Goa, directing the Corporation to frame a scheme for interim rehabilitation of meat/chicken vendors as obligation was cast on it till the new building was constructed.

On October 18, 2024, the High Court had directed the CCP to frame a scheme within six weeks for interim rehabilitation of meat/chicken vendors as an obligation till the new building is constructed and also to submit the details of the new building to be built with a timeline for its completion within eight weeks.
However, the nine beef vendors from the Panjim market have also filed a caveat in the Apex Court besides, a contempt petition in the High Court against the CCP for violating its directions issued on October 18.
Meanwhile, the nine vendors on Thursday told O Heraldo that the CCP action has destroyed their livelihood. “We are without business for the last six months and the CCP is trying to further frustrate us instead of relocating us. Earlier CCP officials showed alternate spaces in the market to rehabilitate us and suddenly changed its decision. The CCP has ample space to accommodate casino operators but they have no space for us. The CCP has affected our livelihood,” rued aggrieved vendors.
