PANJIM: The Panjim zonal office of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has confirmed the attachment of 19 properties in the State including 11 in Anjuna and 8 in Assagao and issued public notice for taking possession of the properties under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

These properties were provisionally attached in November last year as part of a land grabbing scam. The ED has issued notices directing occupants, if any, to vacate the premises within 10 days and hand over possession to the agency. Additionally, any rent or lease amount generated from these properties must be deposited with the ED, as per the notice issued on November 20, 2024.
The provisional attachment was confirmed by the adjudicating authority on April 15, 2024. The ED has also prohibited any transfer, sale, mortgage, or pledge of these properties until further orders.
In March this year, the Panjim zonal office of ED had filed a complaint leading to the Crime Branch registering a case against 14 individuals, including masterminds Mohammad Suhail, Rajkumar Maithi, and Vikrant Shetty. The accused are alleged to have fraudulently prepared forged documents, including notarized deeds, succession deeds, and sale deeds, for the 19 properties now attached.
Though Suhail is still at large, Shetty was released on bail last week.
