PANJIM: The treacherous 50-metre stretch, which snuffed out a life on the Old Mandovi Bridge in August, still lies in dire straits.

The condition of the road has caused misery and has become a safety concern for motorists, especially two-wheeler riders at night.
Several riders have been reported to have sustained grievous injuries after falling off their two-wheelers along this stretch.
It is pertinent to note that on August 21 night, a four-wheeler driver, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, rammed his car into the workers, who were carrying out road patch works. One of the three labourers died, while two others sustained grievous injuries. The patchwork of this section has been left pending since the incident. Tourists and locals have had harrowing experiences while travelling on this road. Multiple accidents have reportedly occurred in the last couple of months.
The bad road condition has brought a bad name to Panjim during the recently concluded International Film Festival of India and the SFX Exposition, which is currently underway.
The road drew flak on social media with netizens mocking the government for “adopting” a natural “speed controlling” system.
“The irony is real! Instead of speed breakers, we have potholes doing the job, and not in a good way! It’s appalling that scooterists are falling victims to these massive craters right before the Mandovi bridge and even all over Goa,” said Vallony Lobo.
