CCTVs planned for entire university campus

PANJIM: In a bid to focus on women security, Goa University (GU) has stated that it is already in a process of installing CCTV cameras on the entire campus and by this academic year the entire system shall be in place. Speaking to Herald, GU Registrar V V Reddy said, “Installing CCTV’s on the campus is in process, meaning the project is underway and will put in place by beginning of this new academic year. The project is already tendered and it is in the process of installation. There will be new central control room where a person shall be dedicated to monitor the cameras.”“Main buildings such as academic blocks, hostels, main and internal roads shall be covered. As the university is scattered, we would like to bargain with the government for compound wall which is very important as it an open campus, people can enter from any place moreover the new 4 lane highway has further divided the campus in to North and South. So with that the compound wall shall protect us from security issues,” Reddy said. When asked whether this proposal or idea of compound wall has been pitched with the government, Reddy said, “We will put a proposal in front of this new government and we hope that the government will support us and that we shall be able to complete the compound wall.”
