PANJIM: With the State government dropping the name of journalist Faye D’Souza from the list of speakers from D D Kosambi lecture series, Congress on Monday accused the BJP-led Centre and State governments of trying to suppress decanting voice against the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act.
Addressing media persons, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) spokesperson Adv Rohit Braz D’Sa said that State Minister for Art and Culture Govind Gaude is on record to admit that fearing possibility of D’Souza speaking against CAA, government decided to withdraw the invitation.
“It is very unfortunate. We condemn it. We want to know if these governments of BJP at State and Centre threatened by the opinion of a journalist? BJP government is trying to suppress the decanting voice against CAA,” he alleged.
D’Sa alleged that D’Souza name was dropped from the list on the instruction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, as they do not want any opinion to be raised against CAA.
He said it is very unfortunate that the D D Kosambi Festival of Ideas, has been narrowed down to promote the ideas of RSS and BJP.
D’Souza, a well-known TV journalist, was among the speakers at the DD Kosambi Festival of Ideas organised by the Goa Art and Culture Department. She was supposed to speak at the event on January 29.
