A group of residents submitted a memorandum to Mamlatdar Ravishekhar Nippanikar and he visited the site, where the construction work of the platform was underway outside the compound of the Ruby Residency complex. After inspecting the site, the magistrate reportedly found no proper permission for carrying out works and ordered to stop the work.
According to sources, the Chaudi residents had submitted a memorandum opposing the mobile tower on noticing the work for a foundation/platform in a residential locality.
“The memorandum was submitted to the Collector, deputy collector and Canacona Municipal Council chief officer about 20 days ago, but we found that no authorities intervened; and we also noticed work being carried out on Saturday and Sunday,” informed Sanjay Komarpant of Chaudi.
Another resident, Babesk Borker, who along withKomarpant, Shankar Naik, Ramkrshina Naik and others met the Mamlatdar on Monday, said, “When we noticed that a platform was already constructed and work was being planned to erect the tower base, we met Canacona Mamlatdar and apprised him about the illegality being carried out at the cost of residents’ health and safety.”
Komarpant informed that the tower was erected by a private company without any valid permission.
Ruby Residency Co-operative Society too has objected to the tower in its backyard, saying it was detrimental to the safety of the residents, informed sources.
Komarpant further informed that the residents have no problem with the mobile tower, but its close proximity to the residential area is worrisome.
“Let the tower come up with proper permissions/licenses but it should be at least a minimum of 400 metres away from any residential localities,” added Komarpant.
