MARGAO: Dilly dallying to take a firm decision on the construction of the market complex may cost Chinchinim Sarpanch and deputy sarpanch their chair.
Six members of the 11-member Chinchinim Panchayat body have tabled a no-confidence motion against Sarpanch Antonio Sequeira and his deputy Melcy Barretto, charging them of non-cooperative attitude in implementing developmental works and for not taking the members into confidence while taking decisions.
The six signatories are Constancio John Fernandes, Joslyn Constancio Fernandes, Antonetta Bela Manuel Rebelo, Santos Patric Rebello, Santano Pedro Joaquim Leitao and Lydia Simon Fernandes. They have called upon the Salcete BDO to call a special meeting of the Panchayat to discuss the motion.
Constancio told the media that the people wanted the market complex and the Panchayat had assured them by acquiring the fields of the villagers, who did not object to the land acquisition for love of the market.
“Why should we delay then a revenue generating project for the vested interest of the sarpanch. Who is illegally pushing this fancied project of which he don’t even know the name whether it is panchayat ghar & multipurpose hall or the Panchayat ghar and multipurpose complex or Panchayat ghar and sport complex at Chinchinim”, he questioned, asserting “it should be remembered that the priority of the people is the market, that’s why it was named as market complex cum panchayat ghar”.
