A 23-year-old man from Mallewaddo-Chorao, committed suicide by jumping off the Ribandar-Chorao ferry into the Mandovi River on Wednesday at about 5.40 pm.
According to Old Goa police, the incident occurred when Anand Narvekar, who was returning home from work, jumped when the ferry was about to start from the Ribandar.
A passenger in the ferry jumped into the river and made a futile bid to tried Narvekar.
Narvekar was working in a company in Corlim. Police said that the motive behind the act was not yet known.
Old Goa police rushed to the site and informed the Marine police, who conducted search operations, but they could not trace Narvekar till late Wednesday evening.
Unnatural death registered

The Margao police has registered a case of unnatural death after a 16-year-old girl died in the Hospicio hospital due to fever.
Police said the girl had high fever since the last two days and breathed her last late Tuesday night.
Further investigations are on.
