A lot of traffic congestion is witnessed most of the time at the vegetable market in Vasco. Incidentally the market is located along the busy Francisco Luis Gomes road. The traffic that passes along this road includes heavy vehicles consisting of trucks, tankers and trailers which move to and from Mormugao Harbour. This creates a bottle-neck at the market place which is crowded with shoppers.
To add to the confusion, trucks carrying goods and handcarts which supply vegetables to the vendors also enter the road leading to the vegetable market as is seen in the photograph.
Matters are made worse by the encroachment indulged in by the vegetable vendors along the internal road. This leads to chaotic scenes, specially during peak hours in the morning and in the evening when shoppers have to cross the road leading to the market subjecting themselves to peril.
While the cops try their best to bring a semblance of traffic discipline at this junction, much more needs to be done by the authorities concerned by way of clearing the internal road of all the encroachment so that more space is available for the movement of trucks and handcarts laden with vegetables and fruits to be supplied to the vendors.
