VASCO: The Murdi-Cuelim locals have been facing frequent power cuts for several months. The electricity supply line which is providing power to the villagers has not been changed or touched since last 25 years, claimed Deputy Sarpanch of Cansaulim Panchayat Ratnadeep Naik.

“The locals from Murdi-Cuelim area are facing frequent power outages since many months. People are complaining that they have been promised to provide uninterrupted power supply but in reality they face frequent power cuts,” he said.
Some locals from Cuelim area said that their streetlights are not functioning properly. The electricity supply lines are very old and were installed many years ago. Now creepers are grown on it.
They also mentioned that there are frequent power cuts during the day and in the night. Some locals also mentioned that their electrical equipment have also developed some faults due to this power cuts issue.
Sarpanch Naik, who is also a panch of Murdi area, agreed that people are facing lots of problem because of power cuts. Many people are coming to me and putting forth their grievance of frequent power cuts. People have expectations that the panchayat will solve this problem and will do some follow up with the Electricity Department.
When asked whether the panchayat will ask to change the old electricity supply lines, Naik informed resolution was taken by the office in this regard and was forwarded to the Electricity Department to prepare the estimate for this work. The estimate was prepared by the Electricity Department and was sent back to the panchayat for its willingness letter to pay the estimated cost so as to forward the same to the higher authorities for early sanctioning for the same. Panchayat is yet to decide on it.
When contacted Assistant Engineer of Electricity Department Suraj Waghmode informed, “Few months back the Cansaulim Panchayat has sent a resolution to the department to take up the work of reconsidering five to six electricity poles, accordingly the estimate was prepared and sent to the panchayat asking for its willingness letter.”
“About this issue, our Junior Engineer discussed with the panchayat office and told that the three resolutions sent by the panchayat are with the Electricity Department and three estimates have been prepared. Until and unless the panchayat gives a willingness letter, the engineer cannot forward it to the Executive Engineer’s office. So far I have not received any willingness letter from the panchayat, once I receive it I will forward it to the higher ups,” he added.
